OUT OF GREY
OUT OF GREY
September 5 - September 28, 2013
Opening reception: September 5
De luca fine art is pleased to present the exhibition out of grey by Yuriko Kubota. Working with tonal variations of grey, Kubota continues to use her double layer technique to further investigate the qualities of motion, stillness, perception, and the materiality of the photographic image.
Kubota was born and grew up in Tokyo, Japan. She studied Fine Art at Joshibi University of Art and Design. In 2004 she moved to Toronto, where she started experimenting with photography as an extension of her painting practice. Kubota works in black & white, with two photographs on top of each other, while meticulously cutting away thin vertical strips of the top layer to reveal slivers of the image beneath. For her new series she's working with circular shapes and cut-outs. The out of grey series are dynamic photo-based works, where the line between two and three dimensional space is blurred, creating the effect of vibration where movement and stillness are courteous rivals.
Yuriko Kubota has shown in various galleries around the world including in Tokyo, New York, Montreal, Toronto, and Shanghai.
The opening is generously supported by Ozawa Canada. www.ozawa.ca
