Maio's minimal but striking paintings employ an informal naturalism to portray the landscapes of his native land. His images are dream-like as if pulled deep from his unconscious mind. One gets the sense that these are really the landscapes of his soul; the hills rivers and trees are the essence of his own existence.
Maio meditates on the natural landscape in all it's fragility and loneliness to find the shape of his art. It is an intimate and spiritual journey that brings his vision to fruition.
Enzo Maio was born in Carpignano Sesia (Novara) in 1953 and now lives and works in Vercelli, Italy.
